Regulations Research and Justification-Age Rating

This symbol means ‘Suitable for all’, which suggests how the movie is normally for children of all age, however it is best targeted to children who are aged 4 and over. In these movies, the story normally has a happy ending and if it contains any aggressive behaviour or violence the movie will have to upgrade the symbol to ‘PG’ or ‘12A’.

PG means ‘Parental Guidance’, this means the child can only watch the movie if he/she is accomplished with a parent/guidance when going to a cinema. While watch a PG movie there could be some unpleasant scenes that are not suitable for some children who are under the age of 8.

This picture symbolizes it is only ‘suitable for 12 years and above’. However, children under 12 years old can still watch the movie but have to be accomplished by an adult. This symbol movie rarely has any inappropriate scenes as these movies are targeted to kids.

Movies which have this symbol means how people under 15 years old can’t watch it because it contains some strong language/violent, sexual gestures, nudity and many more. This shows how people under 15 years old won’t be able to handle these scenes as it could affect them.  

The movies with this symbol, means how it is only for adults and not for anyone who ages under 18 years old. This movie will contain worst scenes than the 15 symbol in terms of appropriate scene. Which means this movie will contain strong stories with gore and violent scenes. This symbol is similar to the 18 symbol however; these symbol movies have more sensitive scenes, such as strong language/ actual sex scenes. These movies can’t be advertised in the general public as its poster or the title could be offensive or too inappropriate for people under 18 years to see. For theaters to release these kinds of movies they will need a special license.

These are some movies which I feel are similar to our story or have similar sub-genre. All of these movies have an age restriction of over 15 years old.

This movies main sub-genre is Psychological. This is a story of a man named Leonard who has some mental issues involving amnesia as he can’t remember what happened 15 minutes ago this is a rare illness which can’t be treated in any way. The main reason for this disability of his is because of what happened to his wife. She was raped and murdered by an unknown man, who Leonard is trying to find. Throughout his journey he finds out who murdered his wife and seeks revenge. 

This is also a thriller-psychological movie, Insomnia means getting less or no sleep. In this movie a detective called Will Dormer is sent to Alaska to investigate a case. This case is a murder case of 17 years old, Kay Connell who was brutally murdered. Dormer’s partner Hap Eckhart, who is also assigned in this investigation to work together to capture the criminal. During this process of investigation Will gets torture mentally by the murderer as he plays around with Will’s life, even when he was at home or not working in the teenager’s murder case. This meant Will had to be cautious everywhere he goes.

Black Swan is a psychological/horror-thriller based movie. It is a story of how a ballerina, Nina who loves dancing and would do anything to achieve her dreams. One day when Nina’s director decides to replace the main role of ‘Swan Lake’, she gets the role. However, throughout her journey she starts changing as she fears her place will be taken by another ballerina. After training hard and feeling few new people, she starts seeing things and believing that someone is following her. This is similar to my own movie as the protagonist of my movie and the ‘Black Swan’ share some similar features of seeing things and having nightmare preventing them from having a proper sleep.
